An Evangelical Church in the Heart of Thatcham

Webs everywhere

If you’ve been lucky enough to get away for a holiday recently you might have noticed, when you returned, that the spiders have been particularly busy leaving those calling cards all around the windows and ceilings.

Apparently, this is the time of year when they tend to get a bit frisky and hence you might catch the males out on the hunt strutting across the living room carpet – scary thought!

Now the God of the Bible is never likened to a spider, of course, however He does leave a great web or matrix of evidence that shows His presence everywhere for us to notice. In the New Testament book of Hebrews we read:

“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways…”

God didn’t just speak once, He did it repeatedly through many people in many time periods and in various ways: He provided laws, other times it was poetry bringing colour to our imagination and understanding etc.

Also, there’s “a great cloud of witnesses”, people’s lives each of which leave clues as to God’s power and presence.

To cap it off, the web of evidence reaches its summit::

“…but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.”

Jesus is the true sunshine behind this evidential web, making it all glorious to the eye – truly a thing of grand design and wonder.
